Process

A core tenet of C’ville Health is a belief in process. There is a process for deciding on treatment, for engaging in treatment and for once treatment has begun. Working through the process can itself be life-changing.

Deciding on treatment:

What is the problem? What is the goal? What exactly is the desired outcome? Sometimes, issues are straightforward. In order to obtain special services, schools require a diagnosis from a medical professional. Sometimes, the problem is unclear: “why am I uncomfortable in my skin?” In the first case, a simple letter identifying a diagnosis is requested; in the second, a careful evaluation can begin to clarify what it is that feels uncomfortable and establishing a goal can start the treatment process and help to clarify a desired outcome. The evaluation itself begins a process of self-awareness and open inquiry.

Engaging in treatment:

C’ville Health provides a Welcome Packet. It contains:

  • Informed Consent
  • Patient Information
  • Patient (and Parent) Questionnaires
  • Fee Schedule
  • Summary of Financial Responsibility
  • HIPAA and Limits of Confidentiality

Certain documents should be completed prior to the first meeting and will be reviewed with Dr. Hurt during that meeting. However, there are also options. Patients must decide how they want the process to unfold. Included in the packet is a lengthy questionnaire. Some may prefer to complete this at home ahead of time; others may prefer an efficient, semi-structured history taking to gather the needed information and proceed rapidly; others still may prefer a less direct process which allows the history to unfold in a conversational way, and which oftentimes reveals surprising insights and a more nuanced understanding of the situational dynamics and how symptoms fit into a larger context. One can feel more business-like, the other more nurturing.
